What are Measurement Templates?

Measurement templates are predefined forms that standardize how measurement data is collected and recorded. They save time, reduce errors, and ensure consistency across your organization by providing structure and pre-filled fields.

Creating a New Template

Follow these steps to create a new measurement template.

Accessing Template Creation
Steps to Create:
  1. Click "Measurements" in the main menu
  2. Select "Templates" from the submenu
  3. Click "Create New Template" button
  4. Fill in the template details form
  5. Click "Create Template"
Basic Template Information

When creating a template, provide:

  • Template Name: Clear, descriptive name (e.g., "Daily QA - 6MV Beam")
  • Description: Explain the template's purpose and when to use it
  • Category: Select or create a category (QA, Calibration, Treatment, etc.)
  • Default Measurement Type: What type of measurement uses this template

Defining Template Fields

The core of a template is its field structure. Fields define what information is collected when the template is used.

Field Types

Templates support various field types:

Text Field

Single line text input (names, IDs, descriptions)

Number Field

Numeric input with optional decimal places

Date Field

Date picker for consistent date entry

Dropdown/Select

Predefined options to choose from

Checkbox

Yes/no or boolean selections

Text Area

Multi-line notes or comments

Adding Fields to Template
Steps:
  1. In the template editor, click "Add Field"
  2. Choose the field type from the list
  3. Enter the field name (e.g., "Technician Name")
  4. Configure field properties (see below)
  5. Mark as required or optional
  6. Click "Add Field" to confirm
  7. Repeat for additional fields
Field Properties

Each field can be configured with:

  • Label: What appears as the field name
  • Required: Whether user must fill this field
  • Default Value: Pre-fill the field automatically
  • Placeholder: Hint text shown in empty field
  • Help Text: Instructions below the field
  • Validation: Rules for acceptable input
  • Options: For dropdown/checkbox fields, the available choices

Field Organization

Drag fields to reorder them in the template. Group related fields together for better user experience.

Template Management

After creating templates, you can view, edit, activate, and manage them.

Template List

The Templates page shows all templates with:

  • Template name and description
  • Category or type
  • Created date
  • Status (active/inactive)
  • Number of times used
  • Action buttons (View, Edit, Activate/Deactivate, Delete)
Editing Templates

You can modify existing templates:

  1. Click "Edit" on a template
  2. Update the name, description, or fields
  3. Add new fields or remove old ones
  4. Reorder fields as needed
  5. Click "Save Changes"
Active vs Inactive
  • Active Templates: Available when creating measurements
  • Inactive Templates: Hidden from users, but historical measurements keep their data
  • Use "Deactivate" to retire old templates without losing data
Deleting Templates

You can only delete templates that have never been used. Templates with measurements can only be deactivated.

Using Templates in Measurements

Once templates are created, using them is simple and saves time during measurement recording.

Selecting a Template
Steps:
  1. Click "New Measurement" from dashboard or menu
  2. Select your film(s) as usual
  3. Look for "Select Template" section
  4. Choose a template from the list
  5. Template fields appear in the form
  6. Pre-filled values are already populated
  7. Fill in any empty required fields
  8. Submit the measurement as usual

Pro Tip: Template Naming

Use descriptive template names like "Daily QA - 6MV" rather than "QA Template 1" so users can quickly find the right template.
